I’m not a massive fan of chickpeas…I find they’re pretty bland and need a lot of help to taste good. I’ll happily wolf down bucketloads of hummus, but other than that I don’t often eat chickpeas. I don’t even buy them.
However, a request for a chickpea curry dinner was made, and I obliged. Unfortunately, this request was accompanied with Mum’s usual caveat when I cook, of ‘not too spicy!’. So, ignoring this, I made a relatively (but not hugely) spicy curry, accompanied with a chilled spinach, mint and coconut milk purée. Although Mum recoiled when she tasted the curry by itself, she later admitted that it wasn’t too bad when eaten with the purée and the egg.
The curry wasn’t up to my usual standards – without a proper food processor for spice blends, it was quite tricky! However, I now have a new blender, so happy days.
