Well…this is a bit of a strange one. My housemate and I have a friend who just loves bananas. So, naturally, we decided to throw him a banana party for his birthday last month! Cue much excitement…which quickly turned to panic as we realised that we could only think of sweet banana dishes! There went our hopes for a classy three-course banana-themed meal…or so we thought. Rebecca remembered having had a yummy banana pizza before (yes, apparently these exist!), and after a bit of search-engine trawling we discovered that banana curry is also actually a thing. We weren’t entirely convinced…but gave it a go anyway!
We adapted a combination of recipes (based largely on what the pictures looked like!), but the main one we used was this: http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/cook/recipe/pork-curry-with-green-banana-20111019-29uhj.html We used about 1kg pork shoulder, 3 bananas, 1 jar yellow curry paste, coriander, basil, parsley, onions, garlic and passata.
It went in the slow cooker for about 10 hours, and was really yummy served with jasmine rice 🙂 My housemate put up a great post about the party in general – you can view it here! http://butterflybecca.com/2015/04/24/a-birthday-ban-an-za/
PS – as you may already have realised, these photos are quite artistic and generally of a higher standard than my usual offering…and that’s because they were taken by said housemate, who’s quite talented behind the lens! Check out her other posts at butterflybecca.com 🙂
